COLD SORESTypes- Herpes simplex oinis dominant within nerves migrates producing
tingling, then a blistering rash. Recurrent in the same site. Complex triggers.
- Oral.
- Genital.
Danger signs- Genital: in case there is coexisting other venereal illness.Contact GU Clinic.
- Herpes Zoster Shingles: especially if it affects the face.Contact GP.
Notes for childrenNotes for the elderly- Not seen in this age group.
General advice- Treat as early as possible in "tingling" phase - or as early as
possible after blister formation.
- Avoid spreading
Therapy- Acyclovir cream.
- Analgesia for symptomatic relief.
- Antiseptics for old lesions if superficial infection.
