Causes

• Broken tooth/filling fallen out - nerve pain.
• Dental infection.

Danger signs

• See proper dental supervision occurs as soon as possible.
• Pain on biting is likely to indicate underlying dental problems - symptomatic relief and dental Contact your dentist is recommended.

Notes for children

• Fluoride drops to strengthen teeth is recommended if the drinking water in the area is not fluoridated.
• Fluoride toughens enamel and makes it more resistant to decay.
• Teething gels can help relieve pain and discomfort in infant gums.

General advice

• FHSAs/Health Commissions can always provide the names of dentists willing to provide NHS services.

Therapy

• Oil of cloves containing medicines/temporary stopper can relieve nerve pain.
• Oral local anaesthetic/ soothing preparations.
• Local anaesthetic (containing gels/pastilles) depending on age.
