ACTION ASTHMA PATIENT
SERVICEThe Action Asthma Patient Service is available from Allen & Hanburys
(pharmaceutical company) for people with asthma, their parents or guardians.
The service aims to provide callers with up-to-date information and advice to
help them live their lives unconstrained by their asthma. The Service's goals
of asthma treatment are adapted from the Aims of Asthma Management devised by
members of the British Thoracic Society and are as follows. - To be free from symptoms day and night.
- To restore normal or best possible peak flow and maintain it.
- To reduce the risk of severe attacks.
- To minimise absence from school or work.
Patients can become members by contacting the service on the above address.
A Level 1 members pack includes a booklet and questionnaire, which when
returned and completed leads to Level 2 membership offering further information
and advice. There are special Desmond Dragon resources for children. Calls to
the advice lines (numbers below) are not free but last less than 6 minutes.
