ACTION CANCERAction Cancer is a charity for, and supported by, the people of Northern
Ireland. The charity was founded by Dr George Edelstyn to fund research into
cancer chemotherapy and provide support services and screening for local people
in Northern Ireland. Its main areas of activity are as follows. - Early detection: Action Cancer provides breast and cervical cancer
screening for women, both at Action Cancer House and in a mobile screening
unit. It also is now focusing on early detection of prostate and testicular
cancer in men.
- Research: Action Cancer supports a range of research projects at Queens
University, Belfast.
- Support and Counselling: Qualified professionals provide a sympathetic ear
and practical advice to patients and their families. Action Cancer provides
counselling and Living with Cancer programmes.
- Local: Action Cancer has helped develop cancer services in Northern Ireland
and is committed to developing partnerships with other like-minded
organisations and official bodies.
Action Cancer produces a range of leaflets on a range of subjects including:
the Mobile Screening Clinic, Early Detection in Men and Women, Prostate Cancer,
Testicular Cancer and Researching new Treatments.
