ACTION FOR SICK CHILDREN

Action for Sick Children is the UK's leading charity dedicated to improving the standards and quality of child health services at home, in hospital and in the community.

Our network of local branches provides practical help, support and information to parents and children in their communities.

Action For Sick Children branches monitor the quality of children's health services and talk to local NHS managers and health professionals to ensure that services meet the health needs of children and young people in their local community.

What We Do

  • We talk to and influence government, health professionals and managers to take account of the child's and parent's point of view.
  • We provide a wide range of publications for health professionals, parents and families.
  • We operate a telephone Parent's Advice Service giving free advice and help to parents and carers.
  • We hold the only centralised library in the UK on all aspects of sick children's emotional welfare.

Action for Sick Children serves to ensure the best possible healthcare for sick children and their families by working with parents, carers and healthcare professionals on improving current and future practices; identifying children’s emotional and psychological needs, and involving children in decisions surrounding their treatment where appropriate.

Action for Sick Children is working towards achieving dedicated child centered care in which children are listened to and cared for by staff who are trained to understand the emotional and physical needs of children.

Action for Sick Children believes that all children young people and their families are equal regardless of their race, creed, sexual orientation, religion or disability. Our work is to campaign for the most appropriate healthcare and support for sick children and their families recognizing and acting upon cultural differences and practices. As a national organisation, we continue to put the needs of the sick child first and welcome membership from individuals and groups from all sections of the community.
