ADFAM NATIONALfor families and friends of drug usersADFAM National is the national charity for the families and friends of drug
users, founded in 1986 by the mother of a son dependent on heroin who could not
find any support for herself. From those small beginnings, Adfam has grown into
a national organisation. The Adfam National Helpline offers confidential
support and information about drugs and information about local support
services nationwide. ADFAM National runs training events on a national,
regional and local level, for parents, members of self-help groups and for
people working with the families and friends of drug users: including drug
workers and volunteers, health workers, probation officers, social workers,
prison officers and other workers in related fields. ADFAM National provides support and advice for those working with the
families and friends of drug users. Workers in local projects and volunteers
are enabled to develop an existing service or guide the planning of a new
service. The Adfam Prisoners' Families Project provides direct help and
information to the families of drug using prisoners. ADFAM National produces the following publications. - The Family Support Group Pack - information on setting up a group.
- Coping with a Nightmare - family feelings about long-term drug abuse.
- Living with a Drug User - a booklet for partners of users.
- Living with a Drug User - a booklet for parents of users.
- Prisoner, Drugs, and You - a booklet for the families of drug-using
prisoners.
