 | ASSOCIATION OF WHEELCHAIR CHILDREN |
The Association of Wheelchair Children offers life training both inside and
outside the home in various locations in the country. Training is tailored to
each individual child's needs and to those of their family. The Association
believes that the wheelchair child needs specialist training for life as early
as possible to enable them to achieve maximum independence. As well as practical help on moving around in a wheelchair, the Association
helps children develop confidence and skills in living with their wheelchair
and using it to maximise their potential as individuals. Sports training is an
important part of the programme. The Association can also advise on types of wheelchair and may fundraise to
help provide special chairs when these are unavailable through the NHS. Where
children have special needs in addition to mobility, such as communication and
hand function problems, the Association attempts to provide aids to help make
life easier for these children. The work of the charity is entirely dependent on fundraising.
