ASSOCIATION OF VISUALLY IMPAIRED OFFICE STAFF (AVIOS)

The Association of Visually Impaired Office Staff (AVIOS) is a self-help organisation of registered blind and partially sighted people employed, training or having experience in office-related occupations. Full membership is open to such people for an annual fee (£5.00 in Jan 99). Members receive a bi-monthly cassette magazine of general information and news about AVIOS; reduced fees for AVIOS training events and exhibitions; occasional pamphlets produced on specific subjects.

AVIOS main activities are:

  • Promotion of the employment of blind and partially sighted people in all office-related occupations.
  • Maintaining an awareness of developments in new technology and making manufacturers and providers of teleterminals, computer equipment and software aware of members requirements.
  • Liaison with those bodies and agencies involved in the employment of blind and partially sighted people by consulting with them on members needs and concerns.

Interested people who do not qualify for full membership can become associate members for a reduced fee. The Association welcomes and values the assistance of sighted helpers in running its events and in other ways. It also welcomes suggestions, assistance and co-operation that might be helpful to its members from agencies, equipment manufacturers, interested organisations or individuals.
