BRITISH ACOUSTIC NEUROMA
ASSOCIATION (BANA)AimsAn Acoustic Neuroma is a brain tumour which is usually benign and slow
growing. It is commonly cured with modern treatment. The British Acoustic Neuroma Association (BANA) is a patient-organised and
administered information and mutual aid group, founded in 1993. It is a
registered charity and exists for mutual support, information exchange and
sympathetic listening. Individuals or their family members who have had benign
tumours or other problems affecting the cranial nerves are eligible for
membership together with anyone interested in supporting the Association. A
small fee is charged for yearly membership. BANA's activities include the following. - Publication of a quarterly newsletter which includes professionally
authored medical information, a postbag and other helpful articles.
- Making available patient information in relation to acoustic neuroma
meetings.
- Responding to the non-medical needs of individual members.
- Providing opportunities for patients to communicate with others by
encouraging local support groups.
- Promoting and publishing results of research on effects of acoustic neroma.
- Promoting awareness about symptoms which may indicate the presence of
acoustic neuroma by exhibiting at relevant medical symposia etc.
- The Association has produced a leaflet titled Some Answers on Acoustic
Neuroma.
