BRITISH ACOUSTIC NEUROMA ASSOCIATION (BANA)

Aims

An Acoustic Neuroma is a brain tumour which is usually benign and slow growing. It is commonly cured with modern treatment.

The British Acoustic Neuroma Association (BANA) is a patient-organised and administered information and mutual aid group, founded in 1993. It is a registered charity and exists for mutual support, information exchange and sympathetic listening. Individuals or their family members who have had benign tumours or other problems affecting the cranial nerves are eligible for membership together with anyone interested in supporting the Association. A small fee is charged for yearly membership.

BANA's activities include the following.

  • Publication of a quarterly newsletter which includes professionally authored medical information, a postbag and other helpful articles.
  • Making available patient information in relation to acoustic neuroma meetings.
  • Responding to the non-medical needs of individual members.
  • Providing opportunities for patients to communicate with others by encouraging local support groups.
  • Promoting and publishing results of research on effects of acoustic neroma.
  • Promoting awareness about symptoms which may indicate the presence of acoustic neuroma by exhibiting at relevant medical symposia etc.
  • The Association has produced a leaflet titled Some Answers on Acoustic Neuroma.
