 | THE BRITISH LUNG FOUNDATION |
The British Lung Foundation was launched in 1985 by a group of chest doctors
to raise funds for vital research into lung disease, and to make people aware
of the extent of lung disease and the importance of good lung health. It is the only national charity solely dedicated to improving the
prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of all lung diseases. Its research is
making dramatic advances that will benefit the 5 million people in the UK with
a lung disease such as bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, sarcoidosis, and
pneumonia. Research is also being undertaken into other areas such as
respiratory distress syndrome of new-born babies, and lung transplants. "Breathe Easy" is the British Lung Foundation's club for people
living with long-term breathing problems. It offers a free newspaper
(containing up-to-date information on lung diseases, treatment, and assistance
available), a series leaflets produced by the British Lung Foundation, and
enables people in similar situations to exchange experiences and information..
There is no membership fee for "Breathe Easy", nor is there a charge
for any publications. The foundation relies entirely on voluntary
contributions, and any donation to its lung research programme is greatly
appreciated.
