BREAKTHROUGH
Deaf-Hearing IntegrationBreakthrough is a charity dedicated to the integration of deaf people so
that all people learn to recognise and share each others abilities. The aim of
Breakthrough is to develop innovative work with deaf and hearing people which
enables them to improve their quality of life through contact, information and
training. Breakthrough's activities include the following. - Publications and regional newsletters.
- Development of advocacy groups.
- Deaf children's playschemes.
- Social activities for deaf and hearing people.
- Drop-in centres.
- Operating Mobility Advisory Vehicles which tour the country offering advice
in local communities.
- Training in total communication, computer literacy and technology.
Breakthrough aims to ensure that deaf people are encouraged to develop their
skills and potential and develops partnerships with other organisations sharing
their philosophy so that resources and expertise are strengthened.
