BREAST CANCER CARE
(SCOTLAND)Breast Cancer Care Scotland is the regional branch of Breast Cancer Care.
The charity offers practical information and support to all those concerned
about breast disease, be it the woman herself, her partner, family or friends.
Breast Cancer Care makes it easier to share one's concerns with someone who has
been through the emotional trauma of breast cancer by putting women in touch
with someone who lives nearby and has had a similar experience. Breast Cancer
Care also supplies information to any member of the general public, health
professionals and the media. The charity's services include the following: - A free, confidential, national helpline (number above) offering support,
practical advice and medical information.
- One-to-one emotional support from a trained volunteer who has themselves
had breast cancer: this support can include telephone contact, face-to-face
meetings, hospital visits and contact with a local support group.
- Prothesis fitting service in Glasgow and Edinburgh which includes advice on
bras and swimwear.
- Information booklets and leaflets free to anyone affected by breast cancer:
subjects include: breast awareness, screening, diagnosis, treatments and
aftercare, protheses, breast reconstruction, emotional aspects, coping with
breast cancer, life after breast cancer.
- Newsletter published three times a year which includes up-to-date
information, current issues, charity activities and fundraising news.
