BRITISH DEAF SPORTS
COUNCIL - BDSCThe British Deaf Sports Council (BDSC) was founded over 60 years ago with
the aim or organising competitors to participate in the World Games for the
Deaf. Its main objective today is the relief of disability by ensuring that
sport and leisure opportunities are available for deaf people in parity with
their hearing contemporaries. The BDSC organises inter-club leagues, inter-regional tournaments, and
national championships which are held on a regular basis. European competitions
are increasing in popularity and friendly internationals are held whenever
finance permits. Deaf people participate in all sports and the Council actually
promotes and hold competitions in the following: football, cricket, swimming,
athletics, badminton, lawn tennis, table tennis, netball, darts, billiards,
snooker, pool, golf, ski-ing, bowling, ten-pin bowling, winter/adventure sports
and basketball. Rules and regulations do not need any amendment or adaptation
but visual start systems and refereeing are used as necessary. Contact the number below for membership details and for further information
on the 120 clubs in England, Scotland and Wales.
