 | CANCER LINK |
CancerLink was founded in 1982 by a group of people with personal and
professional experience of cancer. It was set up because there was not enough
support available for people affected by cancer. CancerLink provides the
following services. The Information Service provides information about all aspects of cancer.
Telephone calls and letters come from every part of Britain. Those who use the
service include people who have cancer, their families and friends and
professionals working with them. The trained staff in the Information Service
offer support and information, and help clarify the users' options, enabling
them to make informed decisions. Telephone information is provided in English,
Hindi,Bengali, Punjabi and Urdu. The Self-Help and Support Service acts as a resource to cancer support and
self help groups and to individuals throughout Britain. There are over 700
groups with new ones starting all the time. These groups are developing
different ways of supporting people affected by cancer. The Self Help and
Support Service helps people set up new groups and to offer one-to-one support.
It promotes the continued development of these services through an information
exchange, training and support. A range of publications is available on emotional and practical issues
about cancer - booklets, factsheets and audio-tapes.
