CARA - CARE AND RESOURCES
FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY AIDS/HIVCARA (Care and Resources for People Affected by AIDS/HIV) was launched in
1988 by David Randall, an Anglican Priest, as a Christian response in Pastoral
Ministry towards those affected in whatever way by AIDS/HIV. CARA seeks to
offer non-judgmental spiritual, pastoral and emotional support to individuals
affected by HIV, their relatives, partners, friends and carers. CARA works
closely with other agencies in the field and is engaged in the following
activities: to offer pastoral support and spiritual care, drop-in access
services, counselling, complementary therapies, personal support services,
support around bereavement/death and dying, planning/taking of funerals and
enabling others to be involved in them, supporting a network of trained clergy
and lay people (both London-wide and nationwide) and providing and facilitating
education and training among churches and other groups.
CARA's aims and objectives are as follows. - To provide pastoral care for people with HIV/AIDS; their relatives and
friends; professionals and voluntary carers.
- To create educational training programmes for people wanting to offer
non-judgmental spiritual, emotional and practical support to those affected by
HIV/AIDS.
- To work with other agencies, irrespective of creed or philosophy, engaged
in the care of people affected HIV/AIDS.
- To offer theological and spiritual reflection on the issues which HIV/AIDS
present both church and society.
- To develop the practical use of resources, including buildings, in caring
for people with HIV/AIDS.
