CENTER FOR PREGNANCY
NUTRITIONThe centre provides information on nutrition during pregnancy to pregnant
women and those planning pregnancy who have concerns about any aspects of their
diet and possible effects on the outcome of their pregnancy. Its services are
also available to others including health professionals and the media. It runs
a helpline run by staff able to answer questions on the following. - Energy requirements in pregnancy.
- Vitamin and mineral requirements in pregnancy.
- Possible beneficial or harmful effects of all types of food for pregnant or
breastfeeding mothers.
The Centre has also established a database of scientific papers related to
nutrition in pregnancy. It is intended that any advice given over the telephone
will be as up to date as possible but strictly based on valid completed
scientific experiments rather than on speculation or theory. Staff at the
Centre are happy to help with enquiries from the press, hospital dietetic
departments, other dietary advisers and fellow members of the scientific
community. The Centre produces a booklet Healthy Eating Before, During & After
Pregnancy. The book Healthy Eating for You and Your Baby, published
by Pan in paperback is also available by mail order from book services by post,
tel 0162 4675137.
