 | CHANGING FACES |
Changing Faces is a national charity providing free help, support and
information for children (and their parents) and adults who have any sort of
disfigurement with the aim of building effective coping strategies and self
confidence. Changing Faces also works with healthcare professionals, schools
and others to promote awareness about disfigurement and its effects. The
charity employs a team of friendly and professional specialists who offer the
following. - One-to-one support - in person, on the telephone and by letter.
- Workshops which allow people to share their difficulties and find ways of
tackling them.
- Self-help booklets and videos which show communication skills and
strategies.
- Advice which helps people make informed decisions about surgery and
treatment.
- An 'exchanger' scheme which puts people in touch with others with similar
conditions.
The team works with support groups around the country by making available
self-help resources, partcipating in their seminars and conferences, and
working with them on projects which boost self-confidence. A range of publications is available, covering the following areas: General
Guides, Practical Skills for Managing a Disfigurement, Specific Guides (for
example on cancer, burns, facial paralysis), Booklets for Young People. Videos,
books and publications for employers are also available. Contact Changing Faces
