CHEST, HEART AND STROKE
SCOTLANDChest, Heart & Stroke Scotland is a medical charity which aims to
improve the quality of life for people in Scotland affected by chest, heart and
stroke illness through programmes of medical research, health promotion, advice
and information, and the provision of services to those who have these
illnesses. It is involved in the following activities. - The Chest, Heart & Stroke Advice Line aims to provide confidential
information, advice and support to people with chest, heart and stroke
conditions, their families, carers and health professionals. The Line is
staffed by registered nurses with experience in respiratory, cardiovascular and
cerebrovascular conditions.
- Emergency life support training for the general public.
- Advice, support, education and exercise programmes in various regions of
Scotland.
- Welfare to individuals and families in financial difficulty as a result of
chest, heart or stroke conditions.
- Volunteer Stroke Service giving practical help to people who have had a
stroke, particularly those with speech and communication skills.
- Fundraising.
The charity produces an extensive range of leaflets, booklets, videos, tapes
and newsletters including: Asthma Questions & Answers, Tuberculosis
Questions & Answers, Chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema and COPD, Heart Disease,
Reducing the Risk of a Coronary, Heart Attacks, Stroke - a guide for carers,
Stroke - a guide for patients, Keeping well after your stroke, How to reduce
