CHILD POVERTY ACTION
GROUP (CPAG)The Child Poverty Action Group is a national charity which has been fighting
poverty for over 30 years. The CPAG seeks to ensure that families on low
incomes get their full entitlement to welfare benefits and it campaigns for
improvements in both benefits and other policies to eradicate the injustice of
poverty. At a national level the CPAG is involved in the following activities: - Advising local advice workers on the complexities of the social security
system and keeping them up to date with developments.
- Fighting for rights by taking up legal test cases to secure for people the
benefits to which they are entitled.
- Researching the facts of poverty and providing up to date analysis for
decision makers, the media and the public.
- Campaigning for changes in policy to help prevent child poverty.
The CPAG also has local branches which campaign on local issues and lobby
their local MPs. There are different categories of membership depending to suit
individuals' interests. The group also has a range of publications relating to
