CHILD POVERTY ACTION GROUP (CPAG)

The Child Poverty Action Group is a national charity which has been fighting poverty for over 30 years. The CPAG seeks to ensure that families on low incomes get their full entitlement to welfare benefits and it campaigns for improvements in both benefits and other policies to eradicate the injustice of poverty. At a national level the CPAG is involved in the following activities:

  • Advising local advice workers on the complexities of the social security system and keeping them up to date with developments.
  • Fighting for rights by taking up legal test cases to secure for people the benefits to which they are entitled.
  • Researching the facts of poverty and providing up to date analysis for decision makers, the media and the public.
  • Campaigning for changes in policy to help prevent child poverty.

The CPAG also has local branches which campaign on local issues and lobby their local MPs. There are different categories of membership depending to suit individuals' interests. The group also has a range of publications relating to rights and benefits. Contact the address above for further details.
