THE CONTINENCE FOUNDATIONMission statementThe Continence Foundation is dedicated to helping people who hve some
problem with bladder or bowel control in their adult lives. We provide
information and advice, promote advances in public and professional education
and campaign for the improvement of continence services. Why are we here?- Over 3 million people in the UK have some form of incontinence.
- Anyone can become incontinent - man, woman or child - at any age.
- Many people are unaware that their condition can be treated.
- Many people feel too embarrassed or ashamed to seek help.
- In most cases their condition can be improved - and often cured.

What services do we offer?
Helpline 0207 831 9831- Open Monday-Friday, 9.30-4.30.
- Receives 13,500 enquiries per annum from public, carers, nurses, GPs,
charities and others.
- Staffed by continence nurse specialists.
- provides advice, product information and details of caller's local NHS
continence nurses.
- Any relevant literature sent to the enquirer free of charge.
- Written and faxed enquiries also accepted.
Literature- More than 20 leaflets and factsheets available for people with continence
problems.
- Comprehensive specialist bibliographies and publications for professionals
available.
- Confidential Book Ordering Service for service users.
Professional support- Research, maintain and publish databases of all continence products and
Continence Advisory services available in the UK.
Media- Promotes positive coverage of continence related issues to the media.
Lobbying- Submits evidence and enquiries to parliamentary and other committees to
press for improved and better funded services and support.
Affiliated organisations- Act as an umbrella body for more specialised bodies concerned with
incontinence.
- Host quarterly coordinating meetings and cooperate on appropriate
endeavours.
