ENCEPHALITIS SUPPORT GROUP

The Encephalitis Support Group offers support in the following ways.

  • Listening - everyone working within the Encephalitis Support Group has had personal experience of encephalitis and will be able to understand something of the problems experienced by sufferers. Individuals can be linked with other people/families who are experiencing similar difficulties so that problems and solutions can be shared.
  • Information - the Encephalitis support Group has information about the condition and about what help is available. A newsletter is produced 3 times a year which includes articles on aspects of encephalitis and members' stories.
  • Meetings - a number of meetings are organised each year, some with special themes (e.g. employment, education) with speakers and workshops. Others are just a get-together of members to talk through problems.
  • Raising awareness - the group aims to raise awareness of the condition amongst the medical profession so that it is diagnosed and treated promptly. They also want to raise awareness of the long term effects of encephalitis amongst the medical profession, social workers and benefit agencies, education and employment authorities as well as the general public.
  • Research - the group encourages research into the condition itself, its treatment and into the long term problems and their management.
