GATEWAY / NATIONAL FEDERATION OF GATEWAY CLUBS

Gateway is part of Mencap, an organisation for people with learning disabilities and their families. Gateway is made up of over 700 clubs, projects and Award groups in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It aims to enable people with learning disabilities to access leisure and social activities in the community and opportunities for personal development including self-advocacy.

Gateway campaigns for and with people with a learning disability for the rights of people with a learning disability and works with other organisations and groups for the benefit of people with learning disabilities.

All clubs/projects which are affiliated to the National Federation of Gateway Clubs are expected to adopt the Gateway Charter which includes Gateway's beliefs, standards and people's responsibilities and involvement. They should also operate with a management committee with responsibilities laid down by Gateway to ensure the club functions properly.
