GULF VETERANS ASSOCIATIONGulf War Syndrome is the title given by the media to Gulf War related
illnesses: there are several possible causes and a range of symptoms. The Gulf
Veterans Association was formed at the end of November 1994 by veterans of the
Gulf War, to support and act for all Veterans of that war, whether Army, Navy,
RAF or civilian. There are now several hundred members including the full
spectrum of the armed services plus Fleet Auxiliary and civilians both in
Britain and abroad as well as those who have joined in memory of those lost in
that conflict. The Gulf Veterans Association is purely voluntary, formed and run by
Veterans and their families. It is non-political and is now an independent
branch of the Royal British Legion. The Association aims to help and support
those members who have problems either through its own offices or through
contact with other organisations such as SSAFA and the Royal British Legion. A
wide range of issues can be covered from advice on housing after discharge, war
pensions, mobility needs, and benefits to obtaining replacement medals. The
Association does not get involved in any litigation procedure with regard to
monetary compensation but has provided information to House of Commons Select
Committees on illnesses and symptoms suffered by veterans. Contact the above address for membership details.
