HALTHALT is a Patients Support Group for sufferers of liver tumours involving
patients, their spouses/relatives, friends and Health Professionals. The group
was formed in October 1994, when twelve patients who had undergone liver
treatment under the care of Consultant Surgeon Mr David J Sherlock at North
Manchester General Hospital and their partners, met to share their experiences
and consequently found tremendous reassurance because of this. HALT is currently organised by a voluntary committee including patients,
spouses and persons who have been involved with liver cancer. Activities
include the following: - To hold meetings to enable members to get together and share their
experiences and feelings with one another.
- To offer support to patients during their stay in hospital.
- To give information on where to go for counselling.
- To make information from other cancer organisations eg Cancerlink and
CancerBACUP.
- To increase public and professional awareness of treatments for liver
cancer.
- To support treatment of liver tumours by voluntary fundraising.
