Headway is a major national charity with its headquarters in Nottingham. It
was established in 1979 and now has 40 Headway House Day-Care Centres and 114
local groups across the country. It also has strong links with organisations in
other countries. Aims Headway aims to: - provide information and support for people with head injury, their
families, and carers
- promote co-ordinated multi-disciplinary approaches to head injury
screening, acute care, assessment, rehabilitation, and community re-entry, with
clear accountability at all stages
- assist people with head injury to return to community living, including
access to appropriate accommodation, social outlets, and productive activity
- arrange opportunities for those involved to meet and share their
experiences and concerns
- press for improvement in national and local sources for the head injured
- increase public awareness and understanding of head injury
Activities Headway works closely with health and social services. It has a range of
publications designed to help people who have head injuries, their families,
carers, and professionals. A quarterly Newsletter, "Headway News", is
sent to 5,000 addresses which includes Headway groups, professionals, and
individuals. In addition, a wide range of up-to-date information is held.
