HEARTLINKHeartlink is a registered charity and support group which aims to assist all
heart patients of any age, their carers, families and friends and to promote
awareness to individuals and companies nationally. Families can register for a
small annual fee. Heartlinks aims and activities are as follows. - To provide confidential, unconditional 24 hour support, information and
advice to patients and carers, including a special counselling service for
transplant patients and their families.
- To offer a service open to anyone, anywhere at any time.
- To provide an opportunity to contact other patients and carers who have
experienced similar feelings and emotions for mutual support.
- To offer technical and explanatory literature about the conditions in
understandable, non- technical language.
- To offer a special service to deaf or hearing impaired heart patients and
carers.
- To offer the facility to put questions on the Patient Forum Page on the
Heartlink Internet site (address above).
- To offer awareness information to individuals and companies.
- To offer the support services to the employees of a company via the
Helpline or through the personnel department.
- To offer information on benefits for patient and carer.
- To offer fully or partly subsidized breaks to patients and carers in
Heartlink's Convalescence Unit in Somerset; the unit can be used by all age
groups needing a period of recovery or regeneration prior to or following
treatment for coronary heart disease.
Heartlink has leaflets (available by sending an SAE) on the following:Coronary Heart Disease Risk Reduction, Stress Control, Arrythmias,
Bradycardia, Tachycardia, Angina Explained, Heart Attacks, Pacemaker, Bypass
Surgery, Valve Replacement, Heart Transplantation, Dont Overdose on Stress,
Ischaemic Heart Disease Explained. It also has specialised information
sheets dealing with congenital heart disease and lesser known syndromes
involving the heart.
