The Centre's staff, including Specialist Teachers, Educational
Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Counsellors and other
professionals, provide a comprehensive range of services to meet the needs of
individual dyslexics, teachers and schools. The Centre recognises that each
individual has different problems and needs - no two people are the same - and
a flexible approach allows the Centre to cater for these. A person's first
contact with the Centre is normally a consultation, which is free. This
provides positive advice which people can use to make their own decisions on
which of the Centre's services are appropriate for them. External services to
meet particular needs may also be suggested. The Centre's resources are
increasingly spent on spreading the specialist skills it has built up over the
past 25 years through the community. It includes one of the biggest and most
active Specific Learning Difficulties training programmes for teachers and
classroom assistants in the country, training about 100 people every year to
return to their schools as specialist teachers. A range of services to schools
and their staff is also available, including in-service training, partnership
schemes, courses and conferences.
