HYPERACTIVE CHILDREN'S SUPPORT GROUP

Registered Charity No. 277643

The Hyperactive Children's Support Group (HACSG) was founded in 1977 and grew almost overnight into a national association. It was granted charitable status in 1979. The aims of the group are to:

  • help and support hyperactive children and their parents
  • conduct research, and promote investigation into the incidence of hyperactivity in the UK (its causes and treatments)
  • disseminate information concerning this condition

There are some local groups in the UK started by parents of hyperactive children. There are also "contact parents", who have offered to help newly joined members in their locality. Support and shared experiences can reduce the stress caused by having a child with behavioural problems and allergies.

Membership is on an annual basis, with three newsletters to keep members up-to-date on the latest information concerning research, information, and recipes, and additions to the "safe shopping" guide which the group publishes. Members also receive a copy of the 32-page diet handbook, "Hyperactive Children - a Guide to their Management".

Fees and publications

Family membership costs £12.00 for the first year, including the diet handbook. The annual renewal fee is £8.50. For professionals (teachers, doctors, health visitors, etc.), associate membership is available at the same rates. For families on Income Support, the corresponding fees are £8.00 and £6.50 respectively.

Members receive three free journals per year, and are entitled to local group membership and free advice from the group centre. It is not possible to give individual medical advice, but the group has medical advisors and is also in touch with various hospitals and doctors.

Professional information packs are available for professionals, at a nominal cost of £7.50 (please state your profession when ordering, i.e. health visitor, teacher, etc.). If a copy of the diet handbook only is required, please send £3.50, mark your envelope "Diet handbook only, please", and allow 28 days for delivery.
