 | KIDNEY CANCER UK |
KIDNEY CANCER UK is a new organisation, founded in January 2000 and
dedicated to the support of kidney cancer patients and their carers. It seeks
to build a community of individuals and groups which will meet locally and
nationally to promote their shared interests, and which will also use Internet
technology to provide an online discussion forum for the exchange of views and
information among all KCUK members wherever they live. In the initial phase of organisation, Keith Taylor and Dick Williams will
jointly undertake the major co-ordinating role at the national level, assisted
by a small group of volunteers in various parts of the country. From these
small beginnings, it is hoped to develop an ever-increasing network of KCUK
local support groups. Decisions concerning the formal constitutional structure
of KCUK will be taken at our first annual conference to be held in the summer
of 2000. All KCUK members will have the right to attend this conference and
participate in the decision-making process. KCUK intends to publish a bi-monthly Newsletter, starting in March 2000, and
to proceed immediately to the establishment of an online discussion group (KCUK
Forum) in which all KCUK members with Internet access can participate. This
will make it possible for members to send messages and receive replies at any
time of the day or night. In addition, all members will be kept informed
(through an e-mailing list or by post) of forthcoming events (meetings,
conferences, workshops, etc.), major website updates, and other announcements
which are likely to be of interest to them. Initially, KCUK's financial resources will depend entirely on membership
subscriptions and voluntary donations. We have also started to make
applications to grant-awarding bodies, and wish to encourage other appropriate
fund-raising activities. One of our first priorities must be to publicise the activities of KCUK
throughout the UK by distributing posters and information leaflets, contacting
national and local media organisations, and by promoting awareness of this
website via the Internet. We will also establish direct contact with kidney
cancer organisations in other countries for the purpose of exchanging
information and learning from each other's experience. We welcome all suggestions and offers of practical help. If you have
particular skills which could help us to achieve our goals, please let us know.
