LUNG AND ASTHMA
INFORMATION AGENCYThe Lung and Asthma Information Agency, established in 1991 and funded by
the National Asthma Campaign, with support from 3M Healthcare and Baker Norton,
the British Lung Foundation, and the British Thoracic Society, has the aim of
increasing awareness and understanding of lung disease and asthma. Collation of statistical information has led to the establishment and
development of a respiratory database. Information from this is used in the
production of LAIA's factsheets, which are published six times each year. The
agency also produces commissioned reports, works in collaboration with other
organisations, and provides an information service for its sponsors. LAIA's current factsheets include information on seasonal variations in
asthma, showing: - trends in asthma mortality in the elderly
- asthma prevalence in Great Britain
- trends in outdoor air pollution in the UK
- trends in hospital admissions for asthma
- trends in GP prescribing of drugs for respiratory disease
