LIVING PAINTINGS TRUST /
FEEL HAPPY (CHILDRENS PROJECT)The Living Paintings TrustOperates a free postal library service, distributing touch and sound packs
to visually impaired people. - Cassette tapes guide a person round a raised copy of a picture.
- Albums cover a variety of topics - paintings, architecture, tapestry and
birds.
- Each album deals with ten works of art produced in collaboration with
famous galleries, museums and art collections.
- A wide range of art forms is covered dating from the thirteenth century
through to the modern day.
- The albums contain colour reproductions so that the enjoyment can be shared
with sighted people.
- The Bats project expands the Living Paintings concept for use in art
galleries and museums. A visit is enhanced for the visually impaired by
allowing them to view a work of art using the sound and touch systems.
Feel Happy Provides a free library service that is available to blind children, their
schools, parents and to the blind parents and grandparents of sighted children. - Children receive a normal, popular, illustrated book with the main
characters translated into raised images on plastic sheets; these are brightly
coloured for the benefit of children with some residual vision.
- The child can experience the characters by touch.
- These special pages are bound into the book with clear plastic sheets
carrying the text in Braille.
- An audio cassette evokes the scenes on each page and explains how to touch
and understand the feely pictures.
