MACINTYRE CAREMacIntyre Care, a voluntary organisation and registered charity, was founded
in 1966 by the parents of a child with a multiple disability. Together with
other parents their aim was to provide quality care and education to a group of
people who would otherwise have spent their lives in an institution. Registered
homes provide housing for over 550 people. The organisation provides a diverse range of specialist support services for
people with learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy, challenging behaviour and
communication difficulties. Many of the houses have been designed or adapted to
be accessible to people in a wheelchair and for those with sensory impairment. MacIntyre Care provides care for as many years as is appropriate and
currently cares for some people in their thirties who started at one of the
MacIntyre Care schools when they were young children. They have now progressed
to a more independent lifestyle in the community still benefiting from the
support of MacIntyre Care. Ages range from 8 years to over 80.
