 | MACMILLAN CANCER RELIEF |
Macmillan Cancer Relief is dedicated to working towards the day when
everyone will have equal and ready access to the best information, treatment
and care for cancer. People with cancer often need advice and information, to
help them make informed choices about treatment or other aspects of the
illness. Macmillan Cancer Relief's aim is to develop and promote new ideas for
the treatment and care of cancer patients and their families, which will make
their lives easier and reduce unnecessary levels of fear. Services include: - Macmillan cancer care nurses. These are specialist nurses concerned with
offering emotional support, skills in pain control and practical advice for
patients and carers of people with cancer.
- Macmillan doctors who are involved in care of people with cancer.
- Buildings. Macmillan buildings are specially designed to meet the needs of
people with cancer and include day care and in-patient units. In addition, the
charity undertakes major refurbishment projects, improving cancer wards and
treatment areas in NHS hospitals.
- Education of healthcare professionals in the principles of cancer care.
- Patient grants for people with cancer and in financial difficulties.
- Information. Macmillan produce a range of leaflets about various aspects of
cancer and cancer care.
Macmillan services are available free of charge to anyone affected by
cancer, as part of the NHS. Further information about Macmillan is available on
request. Applications for patient grants are through community, hospital and
hospice nurses, social workers and other health care professionals.
