The Makaton Vocabulary Development Project aims to help children and adults
who have communication and learning difficulties. Makaton was designed to
develop communication, language and literacy and today is a popular and
widely-used communication programme, which uses signs, symbols and speech and
can help children and adults to develop communication skills and overcome their
communication difficulties. Used in the UK and in over 40 countries around the world, the MVDP is
supported in the UK by a wide network of Makaton-accredited professionals who
can provide training courses for parents, carers and professionals. In addition
a wide range of materials is available, for example, books of signs, books of
symbols, video cassettes and IT resources. For more information or a
