NATIONAL AIDS TRUSTThe National Aids Trust aims to promote a wider understanding of HIV and
AIDS, develop and support efforts to prevent the spread of HIV and improve the
quality of life of people affected by HIV and AIDS. NAT is a registered charity
which receives core funding from the Department of Health and support from a
variety of statutory funding bodes, charitable trusts, and companies. NAT works
strategically across the UK to promote greater awareness on HIV in all sectors
of society and to maintain AIDS issues on the national policy agenda. NAT is
engaged in the following activities. - Parliamentary lobbying including publishing AIDS Matters Briefing, a
regular synopsis of key policy issues.
- Co-ordination of World Aids Day in partnership with the Health Education
Authority;
- Encouraging business and industry to develop HIV-aware personnel policies.
- Assisting families, health professionals and voluntary organisations who
are confronting the social stigma of an AIDS diagnosis, (Family Secrets
is a video resource to raise awareness and provide support for families
affected by HIV and AIDS diagnosis).
- UK partner with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative which is
campaigning globally for the development of effective HIV vaccines.
