 | THE NATIONAL SOCIETY FOR EPILEPSY |
The National Society for Epilepsy was founded in 1892. It has been providing
services to help people with epilepsy, and professionals, for over 100 years. Its objective is to advance the research, treatment, care, understanding,
and support, for people with epilepsy nationwide. The society is an independent registered charity administered by a board of
governors. Its services are fully integrated into the mainstream of medical and
social care available nationally to those with epilepsy. The Chalfont Centre is its headquarters, where high quality nursing and
residential care is offered for people with epilepsy and other physical
disabilities, together with a wide range of occupational, medical, and
paramedical services. Services The society provides a comprehensive range of services: - in conjunction with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in
London, it runs the largest NHS outpatient epilepsy clinics in the country,
with a full range of up-to-date facilities (including an epilepsy surgery
programme, EEG telemetry and other facilities)

epilepsy, which helps research into the causes, effects, and treatment of

telephone helpline and a comprehensive range of literature and videos for
professionals and the public; members of the service regularly speak and chair
international conferences and seminars

topics of interest
- the society offers a wide range of training for professionals (including
PGEA accredited courses for doctors and ENB courses for nurses)
- a network of self-help groups provide advice, information, and support to
individuals and their families in their own locality
Membership There are several grades of membership. Basic members receive regular
copies of "Epilepsy Review", the NSE newsletter. Standard members
receive the full membership pack and regular updates (including "Epilepsy
Review"). Professional members receive all the above, plus regular research updates,
and qualify for discounts on selected NSE conferences. Life membership involves
a one-off payment that entitles the member to a lifetime of epilepsy updates.
