 | SEEABILITY (THE ROYAL SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND) |
SeeAbility (operating name of the Royal School for the Blind) is a
registered charity working with adults who are visually impaired and have other
disabilities (learning disability, physical disability, mental health
difficulties) to explore their potential, develop their skills/independence and
enhance the quality of their lives. Services offered include the following: - Assessment
- Community outreach
- Visual impairment rehabilitation
- Day care
- Research
- Sheltered employment service
- Residential services
- Assessment services
- Training for carers and professionals
Residential services are offered at different levels according to need and
range from semi-independent living in community based flats/houses to 24 hour
staffed accommodation. Currently operating from Surrey and South East London,
seeAbility aims to develop service provision in localities throughout London
and the South of England and has several new services planned. Activities for
residents and day attenders include the following: - Training in daily living skills, mobility, orientation and long-cane use.
- Basic education including money recognition and a range of specialist
communication skills.
- Information technology and computer skills training.
- Training in menu-planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning.
- Training in travel to local facilities.
- Employment opportunities.
- Creative activities and physical activities.
