TORCH TRUST FOT THE BLINDThe Torch Trust for the Blind is more often referred to as the Torch Family.
Its aim is to provide Christian literature and fellowship for visually impaired
people. The Torch is a magazine, first published over fifty years ago, and from
that the work has developed into a world wide contact with blind people. The
Christian message is presented in braille, giant print, on tape and through
Torch Fellowship Groups. The Trust is a non-denominational Christian
organisation. The Torch Trust offers the following services. - Six magazines are available covering a wide range of interests and age
groups. These are available in Braille, giant print and compact cassette.
Scripture Union Daily Bread notes and CWR's Every Day With Jesus notes are also
available on cassette. Testimonies, small portions of Scripture, devotional
material and bible study aids are also available in braille and giant print.
- A library service in braille, giant print and compact cassette is
available. Most books are prepared by voluntary transcibers working from their
own homes.
- The family home really comes into its own at houseparty times! Special
weeks are arranged through the year for young people, older people and
families. Guests are also welcome at Christmas and Easter.
- Little Torch is a house set on the edge of the Sussex downs at
Hurstpierpoint. Visitors are welcome all through the year. Houseparties and day
conferences are also held here.
- Over 150 centres around the country have Torch Fellowship Groups where
blind and sighted people meet together. These monthly gatherings are arranged
by local planning groups of Christians, and blind members are encouraged to
take an active part. Transport is arranged for those who need it.
- Scriptures and Christian study materials in English and other languages are
sent to over 90 different countries
