WOMEN'S NATIONWIDE CANCER CONTROL CAMPAIGNThe Women's Nationwide Cancer Control Campaign (WNCCC) is dedicated to
promoting the prevention and early detection of cancers affecting women.
Drawing on 35 years experience as a national cancer prevention charity, the
WNCCC's aims are as follows. - To give clear and balanced information and messages about cancer awareness
and prevention - allowing women to make informed choices.
- To raise awareness of the signs that might indicate early cancers.
- To increase the number of women taking part in NHS screening programmes.
The WNCCC offers a broad range of services including the following. - Co-ordinating an extensive nationwide speaker network providing health
talks and information at public meetings, workplaces and exhibitions.
- Producing a range of health education materials to answer common questions
about cancer prevention and screening (see below).
- Organising special events such as workshops and health days to promote
cancer prevention and screening.
- Working to encourage women to take part in screening programmes -
particularly those from low-uptake groups such as women from ethnic minorities
and inner city areas, and homeless and refugee women.
Leaflets and booklets available by mail order from WNCCC include the
following. - Breast awareness
- Cervical smear test
- After your smear test
- Healthcare for the older woman
- Calling all women (available in 10 languages, describes health
checks that could save a woman's life)
- Cancer...just so you know (for young people 14+)
- Having a cervical smear.
Posters and videos (for purchase or hire) are also available.
