SYMPTOMS DUE TO HIGH BLOOD
PRESSURE
High blood pressure does not usually produce any specific symptoms. There
are however, a few vague symptoms which may be related to high blood pressure,
these include:
- Headache.
- Dizziness.
- Fainting.
- Ringing or roaring sound in the ears.
- Passing urine frequently, particularly at night.
- Unsteadiness when changing position from lying to standing.
A person can have high blood pressure for 10 years or more without being
aware of any problems. It is frequently found during a routine medical
examination. It is important then to make sure that your blood pressure is
checked regularly by the GP.
Symptoms caused by the long term effect of high blood pressure
Several organs in the body can be damaged if high blood pressure is not
properly treated.
- The blood vessels in the back of the eye can be damaged leading to eyesight
problems.
- The heart can be damaged causing breathlessness and chest pain. An
irregular heart beat can occur if the raised blood pressure is not properly
treated. This irregular beat makes the patient aware of palpitations in the
chest.
- Damage to the kidneys does not cause any specific problems to begin with,
but patients may feel generally unwell.
- High blood pressure can be treated and controlled. It is therefore
important to attend for regular blood pressure checks.
