Packed Lunch Ideas

When preparing packed lunches, you need to think about variety and taste as well as nutritional value.

A flask of home-made soup with a granary roll makes a tasty, warming and filling packed lunch.

Give old favourite sandwich fillings a new lease of life by using unusual breads - pitta breads or rolls with different textures. Excellent healthy fillings include turkey, chicken, tuna, lean meats and cheeses like cottage cheese, Edam or Cheddar alternative made with sun-flower oil, and fruit. Salad items can be included with all these.

Other useful items for packed lunches are pots of low-fat yogurt, cartons of pure fruit juice, pieces of fresh fruit, and packets of dried fruit and nuts.
