CHROME ALLERGY

If allergic to chrome there may be many sources of chrome which may allow your skin problems to continue. It is often found in cheap nickel- or cobalt-containing metals.

At home, you should avoid:

  • most shiny metallic-containing objects (stainless steel is not dangerous)
  • some detergents
  • yellow paint
  • shoe polish
  • artificial flowers
  • bleach
  • wood ash
  • fly paper

Avoid the following personal items:

  • chrome-tanned leather (e.g. gloves, shoes, hat bands, wallets, purses, handbags)
  • matches
  • green baize (i.e. snooker tables)
  • green pigment in tattoos
  • chrome-cobalt dentures

At work, avoid:

  • cement
  • plaster (set concrete is not dangerous)
  • oil and cooling system additives
  • cutting (suds) oils
  • engraving solutions
  • laundry bleaches
  • anti-corrosive paint (yellow and rd for rust protection)
  • mordant in dyeing textiles, woods, and furs
  • cleansers for laboratory glassware
