SHORT CONTACT DITHRANOL THERAPY FOR PSORIASIS

Apply Dithrocream 0.1 % to the affected areas. This should take no longer than 2 minutes to apply even in extensive psoriasis. Leave on for 10 minutes. Avoid touching wallpaper, shower curtains, or other fabrics, as staining may result.

Wash off thoroughly, in the bath or shower using double quantities of soap. Dry the skin with an old towel. Moisturise if the skin feels dry with (for example) E45 cream. Moisturising can be repeated as required throughout the day.

Repeat treatment daily. At the end of the first week, if no irritation is experienced, apply Dithrocream 0.25% in the same manner as above.

At the end of the second week, if tolerated, apply Dithrocream 0.5% in the same manner as above.

If skin irritation occurs (similar to sunburn), discontinue treatment for two days, apply moisturisers regularly, and then recommence Dithrocream at the next weakest strength. As the strength of Dithrocream increases, the tendency to stain increases, and it may be necessary to clean baths with bleach after use. Often it is necessary to get close to burning the skin to achieve a maximum response.
