The Blood Care Foundation
Types of Membership
Membership of the Foundation's Blood Care Programme provides corporate
employees, individual travellers and expatriates on all continents with access
to screened blood, resuscitation fluids and sterile transfusion equipment in an
emergency where local supplies are not readily available. A telephone call to
one of the Foundation's permanently manned Alarm Centres activates the
provision to the treating doctor of the appropriate fluids and equipment. The
Blood Care Foundation - a brief
resumé.
Full membership is designed to meet the needs of the individual, family or
small company whereby the Foundation issues a personalised membership card. In
an emergency, the treating doctor calls one of the Foundation's Alarm Centres
which arranges the delivery of the blood and transfusion equipment required, at
no cost to the member. If resuscitation fluids are needed these will either be
delivered by the courier together with the blood, or they may be collected on
behalf of the member from the closest Regional Supply Point (RSP). No charge is
made for the fluids and equipment delivered by the courier or collected on
behalf of the member from the RSP. Membership costs £36.00 per annum plus
a registration fee of £30.00 payable in the first year only.
Stand-by membership of the Blood Care Programme is designed to meet the
needs of those organisations which prefer the reassurance of knowing all
members of staff and their families are covered by the services of the
Foundation at all times, without the administration needed for individual
registration. Membership cards bearing the name and logo of the organisation
are provided by the Foundation for distribution by the organisation to those
employees and their family members it wishes to be included in this Programme.
The service can be extended, at no extra cost, to cover company conferences,
visitors and outside contractors.
The benefits of Stand-by membership are identical to those of full
membership. Under this Programme, any employee authorised by the organisation
or his treating doctor is eligible to request assistance directly from the
Foundation; the only difference is that when the Foundation has provided the
assistance required, it submits its account to the organisation based on the
actual costs incurred, plus 10% as a contribution towards the development of
the Foundation's services.
Designed to meet the needs of the individual or family, the Foundation has
a Stamp Programme offering short-term membership of the Blood Care Programme
for those going on business trips or on holiday. In an emergency, the treating
doctor calls one of the Foundation's Alarm Centres and is provided with
services identical to those of full membership.
